Dust lines in LED tunnels

Sealing LED tunnels for Highveld and coastal dust. At Astonishing Studio we write from Woodstock and regional desks, not from a brochure. Dust and diodes is the note we wish producers had before the week turned loud. We keep the language plain, the steps countable, and the next link obvious: an activation path, a venue, or a booked hour with our contact form.

Before first switch-on

Dust gets into LED tunnels through fan vents, open cable entries, and the small gaps left after a late refit. On the Highveld, dry load-ins throw fine grit into drivers and connectors before the first content test. At coastal sites, salt-heavy dust sticks to acrylic and traps moisture around joins. This dispatch sets out what to seal, what to label, and what to inspect before public opening.

Seals we specify on site

Start by naming the entry point that will fail first, usually the base plate, the rear hatch, or the top cable gland. Use closed-cell foam where panels meet, fit gland plates to loose cable penetrations, and keep spare filters bagged until final install. For retail launches, photograph each sealed edge before branding skins cover the frame. If the fix needs a site decision, send the venue, city and defect list through our contact form, with a note on how the tunnel was built.

Case lid inspection order

Dust finds LED strips, screens and glossy product plinths long before guests do, especially on festival sites and open retail fit-outs. Flag which fittings need covers during load-in and note whether the dirt is from road grit, drilling or unpacking, because each one needs a different fix.

Highveld grit and coastal salt

Johannesburg and Pretoria load-ins often start with dust already sitting on truss, cases, and power distro lids. In Durban and Cape Town, sea air leaves residue that turns loose particles tacky around diodes and ribbon cable ends. Check fan direction, wipe test panels with lint-free cloths, and replace cracked gaskets before content runs. Load-shedding planning still matters when chargers, spare receivers, and test media all need timed access to power.

Go to /activations for tunnel and entry concepts, then /venues for access conditions that affect sealing and maintenance. When a dispatch note needs a specific site example, pair it with a venue page and the install photos from your pack. Keep the issue statement attached when you share it with power, rigging, and content teams so each crew reads the same fault first.

After reading Dust and diodes, move to activations for tunnel formats, venues for site conditions, or use our contact form when the dust point needs photos and dimensions.

Woodstock desk for dispatches
